Who We Are

The OBI Coordinating Center brings together individuals with expertise in quality improvement, implementation science, health services analytics, organizational and behavioral change, decision science, and health policy.

We are committed to supporting hospitals, maternity care teams, birthing people, and communities, and believe that together, we can enhance the quality, value, and outcomes of childbirth care provided in Michigan.

Michelle Moniz, MD, MSc

Michelle Moniz, MD, MSc

Program Director

Bio

Dr. Moniz is a generalist obstetrician-gynecologist and health services researcher at Michigan Medicine and Program Director of OBI. She is one of the only implementation scientists in the field of obstetrics. Her research and leadership are dedicated to expanding access to high-quality care for all, with a particular emphasis on advancing women’s access to evidence-based healthcare.

Molly Stout, MD, MSCI

Associate Program Director

Bio

Dr. Stout is the Michigan Medicine Maternal Fetal Medicine Division Director and OBI’s Associate Program Director. Her clinical and leadership work is focused on building innovative clinical programs for maternal and fetal care. Her research focuses on preterm birth and other major unanswered questions in obstetrics.

Lisa Kane Low, PhD, CNM

Lisa Kane Low, PhD, CNM

Bio

Dr. Kane Low is a Professor in the School of Nursing, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Department of Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Michigan and is part of the midwifery service at Michigan Medicine. Her research includes a focus on the context of maternity care such as unit culture, shared decision-making, and person-centered care as critical contributors to improving health outcomes and promoting access to high-quality care for all.

Alex Peahl, MD, MSc

Alex Peahl, MD, MSc

Bio

Dr. Peahl is an Assistant Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology and a health services researcher at Michigan Medicine. Her research focuses on improving the effectiveness, efficiency, and access to reproductive health care through developing, studying, and disseminating high-quality maternity care interventions. She serves as co-director of the Michigan Plan for Appropriate Tailored Healthcare in pregnancy (MiPATH) and the chair of the ACOG Redesigning Prenatal Care Initiative.

Jourdie Triebwasser, MD, MA

Bio

Dr. Triebwasser is an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Michigan Medicine and Medical Director of the Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital Birth Center. She has received several teaching awards and an award for research excellence from the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (2018). Her clinical and research interests are in hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, induction of labor, and quality improvement in obstetrics.

Helen has spent the last two decades of her career at the University of Michigan, where she has held various management positions and led the successful launch of several new Collaborative Quality Initiatives (CQIs). She brings vast experience in healthcare operations, quality improvement, and regulatory management.

Bio

Kim’s career has focused on Quality Assurance and Improvement, with an emphasis on change cycles, data integrity, reporting, analytics, and data visualization. Prior to joining OBI, she served as the Healthcare Quality Improvement Director at a federally qualified health center in California and worked at a neighboring CQI helping to facilitate the pay-for-performance program.

Leslie supports the daily operations of the Coordinating Center team and the Collaborative as a whole. Leslie brings four years of prior administrative experience at the University of Michigan as well as expertise in organizational and meeting coordination.

Annise brings 8+ years of healthcare experience, including 3+ years in administrative roles, bringing a strong foundation in operational support and coordination. She’s passionate about quality improvement and takes pride in helping teams strengthen processes that support better patient care and outcomes.

Jessi brings valuable experience as an OBI site Clinical Data Abstractor in Northern Michigan, and a passion for improving clinical outcomes and birthing experiences. Jessi’s personal and professional priorities center on cultivating an inclusive, respectful culture that advances OBI’s mission to ensure safer and better birthing experiences for all.

Bio

Bailey is a registered nurse with 15 years of experience in maternal–fetal health, neonatal intensive care, and quality improvement. She spent a decade in Seattle coordinating complex fetal care and leading multidisciplinary improvement initiatives at Seattle Children’s Hospital. After returning to Michigan, she served as a Nurse Supervisor at Michigan Medicine, supporting system-wide efforts to standardize care, enhance patient access, and strengthen communication across OBGYN services. Bailey is passionate about partnering with care teams to advance safe and reliable care for all mothers and babies across Michigan.

Bio

Maria is a registered nurse with nearly a decade of experience in public health, specializing in maternal and infant health. She brings expertise in quality improvement, provider education, and statewide collaboration. Before joining OBI, Maria supported the Maternal Infant Health Program, guiding statewide quality efforts for professionals working with families during pregnancy and infancy. She is passionate about advancing care and improving outcomes for families across Michigan.

Meghanne Powers, BSN, RN

Bio

Meghanne Powers, BSN, RN has over 21 years of nursing experience, specializing in Labor and Delivery for more than 14 years. She has supported births in both rural hospitals and Level 1 trauma centers, and is dedicated to providing safe, evidence-based, and compassionate care. Meghanne’s well-rounded experience includes telemetry, pediatrics, special care nursery, women’s health, OR nursing, and ICU management. As a third-generation maternal health caregiver, she is passionate about advancing outcomes in childbirth.

Ellie Suse MSN, MPH, RN

Bio

Ellie brings both clinical and quality improvement experience as a bedside nurse at Northwestern Prentice Women’s Hospital in the women’s health float pool and as Nurse Quality Manager at the Illinois Perinatal Quality Collaborative. She has worked on labor and delivery, postpartum and Neonatal Intensive Care units, and supported hospital teams across Illinois in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives focusing on promoting vaginal birth, antibiotic stewardship, safe sleep, and ensuring access to high-quality healthcare for all people. She holds an MSN in Population Health and MPH in Health Behavior and Health Education from the University of Michigan.

Claire Dickey, PhD

Senior Statistician

Bio

Claire is a data analyst supporting OBI’s operations and reporting work. Her recent work focused on utilizing state-wide clinical registries in combination with claims databases to characterize patterns of treatment in colorectal cancer. Before transitioning into healthcare data science, she received her PhD in Astronomy from Yale, where she studied the effects of supermassive black holes on the evolution of dwarf galaxies.

Senior Database Analyst/Programmer

Bio

Candice assists in evaluating/designing existing or proposed systems to structure and access databases to support OBI hospitals with quality improvement and data abstraction efforts. With over a decade of extensive technical, interpersonal, and B2B leadership she brings a multitude of knowledge in quality assurance data analyzation, while also holding a DE sponsorship from the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Rebecca Wardrop, MSPH, PhD

Rebecca Wardrop, MSPH, PhD

Senior Data Analyst

Bio

Rebecca supports OBI’s analytic services, data operations, and performance reporting. She received her MSPH and PhD from the University of South Carolina. During her studies, she contributed to oncology research regarding patient experience and health care imbalances as well as research aimed at improving tic disorder screening tools for children. She has previously worked as a Statistical Analyst for Palmetto GBA through BCBS South Carolina.
