Optimizing Induction for Better Outcomes
Background
OBI is partnering with 65+ hospital teams in Michigan to implement evidence-based induction of labor practices that shorten induction time and reduce complications for parents and babies.
The Problem
Induction of labor (IOL) is among the most common obstetric interventions. Within the OBI Collaborative, the duration of IOL is substantially longer than reported in published trials. Given the adverse outcomes associated with prolonged IOL, shortening IOL duration is a key strategy to improve outcomes for families.
OBI inductions currently underutilize two proven methods likely to improve outcomes for parents and babies.

Aim
By December 2028, more than 70% of participating hospitals will offer evidence-based IOL.
Goals
- 80% or more of clinicians are trained in evidence-based IOL
- 70% or more of eligible patients are recommended evidence-based IOL methods
